Water – How to live without it? Relevance for life and distribution on the Planet Water usages Water utilization by man depends on its availability, social-economic and cultural contexts and on the way this resource is collected, treated and distributed. Water main uses are: Public water supply (the highest utilization of water) – divided between home use ( as a source of life, beverage, food preparation, personal hygiene, home cleaning, gardens irrigation, breeding of pets and others); and public use (supply of dwellings, schools, hospitals and other public institutions, gardens and parks irrigation, cleaning of streets and public areas, landscape planning, fire fighting, navigation, etc). Industrial – as raw material in the production of food, chemist and ice production and basically all the industrial activities to produce any kind of good – from cars to hair-driers. Also in industries where water is used for refrigeration, such as iron production, for washing in the paper production areas, clothes, in slaughter houses, etc, as well in activities where it’s used to make steam, among others. Commercial – at offices, workshops, commercial centers, shops, bars and restaurants, ice-cream parlors, etc. Agriculture and cattle-breeding – in irrigation to produce food, on the treatment of animals, washing of machines, facilities, tools, etc. Amusement – in leisure, tourism and social-economic activities, in swimming-pools, lakes, parks, rivers etc. Electric energy generation – production of energy through deviation from waters natural courses. Sewage and water treatment – diluting and treating effluents.
